How to Spawn Items in Stardew Valley
If you‘ve been looking for a guide on how to spawn items in Stardew Valley, then you are in the right place. For those of you who already know how to spawn items, can check our items ID codes list.
Stardew Valley doesn’t have any in-game tools or console commands for spawning items, instead a secret so-called bug or a glitch can be used as a cheat, that allows the player to rename objects (which can be your character or any animal) to item ID’s, and then claim that specific item. There are two possible ways to achieve this:
- By purchasing and naming your animal with the IDs, corresponding to a specific item. When naming an animal, type a desirable item ID number in brackets. You can type in up to three item IDs in the name. For example, purchase a chicken and name it without gaps, and Ruby, Dinosaur Egg and Gold bar will appear in your inventory.
- During character creation, by naming the character with an ID number in brackets of a desirable item, and then approaching ant talking to any villager in the game. If during dialog villager mentions your name, which for example is , you will receive a Warrior ring item to your inventory.
Spawn Items by Naming an Animal
This method is very quick and simple, because all you need to do is buy an animal and name it to a specific item ID number, and you will receive the item. The only downside of this method is that to do this you will need to have some amount of in-game money. So be sure to have at least 800 gold coins in your pocket, so you can buy a chicken and use it for spawning items.
Start this by traveling to northeast area of Cindersap Forest, find and enter Marnie‘s Ranch, then talk to Marnie and select “Purchase Animals”:
While in Livestock menu, select and purchase any animal from the list. We recommend buying chicken because of its cheapest price:
After that, select an animal, an a dialog box titled “Name your new animal:” will appear. Type the ID number in brackets of a specific item you want to receive and hit “OK” For example, purchase a chicken and name it without gaps, and Ruby, Dinosaur Egg and Gold bar will appear in your inventory.
Unfortunately, you cannot rename your animals, so to spawn other items, you will need to purchase another animal.
Spawn Items by Naming Your Character
The upside of spawning items by naming your in-game character is that it doesn’t require you spending any money, but it can only be one once, at the start of the of the game, unless you are playing PC/Mac version of the game. In these versions you can manually modify game files in game installation folders to change your name. If you want to learn more on how to do this, check out this article on How to Change Your Name in Stardew Valley.
To use this method, first launch the game, and at the very beginning, during character creation, create your character as you like, and then name your character with an item ID number surrounded by square brackets. You can type in up to three item IDs in the name. For example, name your character without gaps to spawn Ruby, Dinosaur Egg and Gold bar.
After creating your character, go find any villager that says your name in the dialogue while they’re speaking to you. You will receive an item every time they mention your name in the dialog. This method is very useful because you can repeatedly talk to the same villager and receive items over and over again.
